The hero holds its own ground. As it leaves the viewport the solid keeps tumbling until the section is out of frame, then the field stops paying for frames nobody sees.
A rank of small rhombi, one to a cell, all the same size and the same grey. The brand diamond tumbles in the free half of the hero on three unrelated rates, so it never lands back on the same pose, and it is never drawn as a shape: the cells it covers swell instead, so the light on its eight faces reads as a halftone and the solid is made of the same marks as the ground it stands in. The camera keeps its own tilt through the tumble, so the diamond is always seen a little from above.
Two things answer the pointer. The rhombi around it are pushed aside on a spring and settle back with about one percent of overshoot, and the cells it passes take on heat that carries them from the ground’s grey up a ramp to brand blue and fades behind them. The faster the pointer travels, the wider the mark and the longer it stands.
